Carleton Etherington B.Mus, FRCO,ARAM, LRAM, DipRAM, was educated at Chetham
School of Music, Manchester, and the Royal
Academy of Music, London,
where he studied under Peter Hurford and David Sanger. Carleton graduated with
a music degree from London
University and was
awarded numerous prizes for organ performance, culminating in the Recital
Diploma.
Carleton won the Paisley organ competition in 1992 and the RCO Performer of
the Year in 1993. He has travelled widely as a Recitalist, appearing in most of
the major venues in the UK
and also in France, Germany, Belgium,
Holland, Ireland
and Australia.
He has performed at Music Festivals in London,
St. Albans, Cheltenham, Nimes and Bruges.
Following a period as sub-organist
at Leeds Parish Church,
Carleton was appointed Organist and Director of Music at Tewkesbury Abbey,
Gloucestershire, in 1996. In addition to his duties at the Abbey, he used to be
the conductor of the Bromsgrove Choral society and the accompanist to the City
of Birmingham Symphony Youth Chorus,
but he is no longer attached to either of those. He is now the conductor of Pershore
Choral Society and Cirencester Choral Society and organ tutor at Dean Close School, Cheltenham. He
is a former Council Member of the Royal College of Organists and a Past
Chairman of the Gloucestershire Organists’ Association. He is much
involved with the work of the RSCM and is active as an organ teacher and
examiner.
Carleton has broadcast on radio and television,
and has made CD recordings on the rebuilt Milton
organ and on the Grove organ at Tewkesbury Abbey.
